Our First Rhodes Scholar!

Well, by know you probably have read about Baltazar Zavala, the El Pasoan who attends Harvard and just received the Rhodes Scholarship to study for 2 years in England. Yes, he is a graduate of Eastwood High School but he learned English and had his first 10 years of schooling at ICS! If that wasn't enough, his fiancee, Melanie Johns, is our dance teacher. So any way you look at it, we claim Zar as our first Rhodes Scholar! Congratulations to Zar, Melanie and to all his ICS teachers!

Winning with Integrity

Our Junior High and Varsity football players make ICS proud. Our players are known throughout the state for helping opposing players up and patting them on the back after a good play. They have proven that teams can win with integrity.

We Made the Goal!

We made our goal of selling 1000 boxes of chocolates! Everyone in K-12th will get an early release this Friday (11:30am)!

In my last entry, I mentioned that about 100 families had not participated in the World's Finest Chocolates fundraiser. By the end of the week, the SALT ladies reported to me that we had less than 25 students/families who had not participated. This represents less than 4% of our students! Thanks to everyone who helped make this the most successful SALT fundraiser ever!

Mandatory Fundraising?

You know, many schools have been forced to make fundraising mandatory in order to reach their financial goals and not raise tuition exorbitantly. At ICS, we have not wanted to do that. Unfortunately, we had almost 100 families who chose not to participate in the chocolate sales. The chocolate bars sold themselves as people can attest to - we did not ask for the families to buy the chocolates but to sell them to others. Anyway, if you did not pick up a box to sell, will you please call the school office and find out how you can still donate to this important fundraiser? Thank you.

Have your kids been talking about how Spiritual Emphasis Week is not what they expected? They're right - it's not. This year we did not provide entertainment...just God. A simple but powerful message. Ask them about it.

This week was filled with fun days like Exaggerated Fake Injury Day and Crazy Pathetic Day! I hope to post some pictures on the website soon. We conclude this awesome week with our 2nd annual Homecoming Game under the lights. See you at 7pm Saturday at Burges High School!

Parents - thanks for your support as we get better this year about being consistent in our handling of dress code and discipline issues. Please know that we love your kids and we are teaching obedience and life skills at Immanuel. Talk to your kids about how enjoyable life at school can be if they just follow the rules! In the whole scheme of things, is it really that big of a deal? God bless you.
